Recipe for "Shit Hitting the Proverbial Fan"

Le'see. Ah, yes. Ingredients first.

1 + retrenchment
1 + staff walk-out
1 + media prominent brand campaign

1. Choose a team of freshly retrenched media people.

They must be under shitload of pressure, running on 2 hours sleep a night, go to the bathroom with their mobiles so as not to miss a client call, drinking coffee by the gallon, and eating only pre-wrapped food items at desk obtained from local garage, or recipe will flop.

2. Get MD to behave unethically

HINT: Leading SA political party unethical

3. Add retrenched team members reacting to unethical behaviour

Think cussing, legal action, threats. I believe I heard "...stab you in the eye with a rusty fork, you gutless wonder", but may just have been thinking to self

4. Add staff walk-out

Picture chaotic scene a la Texas Chainsaw Massacre, minus the psycho killers, blood, dismemberment and dead bodies. But only just.

5. Finally add media prominent brand campaign, with only skeleton staff to run it

...And your recipe is complete!

Needless to say, my "every good thing comes easy from here on in" mantra took some serious strain today.

Now, where's the vino?

London Days - Definiton of the word "Fucked"

I picked up the silliest little book a couple of weeks ago ('Essential English Swear Words' by Stewart Ferris) while browsing for something special. It's all about English swear words, and I guess people who don't live in the UK would probably not get some of them. The majority of the words though are totally 'gettable'. Here is my favourite:

"Fucked"
Definition - The final declaration that something is broken despite your attempts to repair it by hitting it and kicking it.

Usage - 'You're well and truly fucked'
Useful phrase for an Accident & Emergency doctor to a well-mashed patient

OMG! Just typing that took 10 minutes, I was laughing so hard! Ouch. Blue tummy now.

Ah...apparently I have an 'Expression Potential' of 93%...funny then how this is one of my favourite words! :-)

London Days - A quote from Emiliano Zapata

'I would rather live on my feet, than die on my knees' - Emiliano Zapata, Mexican Revolution

For me, this quote has nothing to do with defying God or not believing in Him, because I believe in a Creator. I believe tis quote has to do with living life to it's fullest. Capturing every moment. Not waiting for fate, or destiny, to run it's course, but making your path for yourself. So that when you do die, you're not left begging the answer to the question 'Why didn't I?'

London Days - My Morning. Sometime during 2008

06.55 - Overslept. Aaaarrrggghhh! Fly out of bed, rushing around like a blue-assed fly trying to get showered, dressed and make-up done in 5 minutes. I fail.

07.25 - Finally leave the house and drive to the station in a mad hurry hoping to catch the 07.27 to Waterloo. Yeah right!

07.35 - Miss my train. Drive around, cussing, trying to find a parking space. Eventually find one four blocks from the station...I might as well have walked from home.

07.47 - Running in high heels is a bitch. End up standing in a queue to buy a travel card behind some twit gassing on his mobile phone and hogging the machine instead of buying his fecking ticket! I have two minutes before the next train and decide to say to hell with a ticket and dash for the train. I contemplate whacking said twit with my handbag, but don't have the 30 seconds to spare and don't want to damage my handbag.

07.53 - Phew! Make the train and bonus...I find a spare seat with no one sitting next to me.

07.57 - Lady gets on and decides to sit next to me. She shakes out her paper, and knocks me on the arm, hard. No apology. I think it's going to leave a bruise.

07.59 - Lady sitting next to me has coughing fit. Then takes out tissue and starts blowing her nose. I cover my nose and mouth with my hand to try and avoid getting her cooties.

08.05 - Lady sitting next to me has been coughing for six minutes straight. Only pausing to sniffle into her tissue.

08.10 - She is STILL coughing. I now start 'hmpffing' under my breath, tapping my foot and deliberatley turning my head away when she sniffles.

08.19 - STILL COUGHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And it's getting worse.

08.24 - For f*cks sake, lady! When is this train getting to Waterloo??!!

08.30 - If she doesn't stop coughing, I am going to ram that tissue down her throat!

08.33 - Passenger opposite us offers coughing lady a lozenge. Hopefully now she will shurrup already!

08.35 - S-T-I-L-L C-O-U-G-H-I-N-G!

08.36 - Thank Gawd! I swear 'coughing lady' is lucky to still be alive. I get off the train and dash for the tube. I have to be at the office in 23 minutes.

08.40- Feck! I don't have a ticket. Rush to the ticket machine and stand in queue...only to discover I was in the wrong queue, this machine only takes coins. I have a note. $£%^&"!!!

08.43 - Have ticket. Running for Bakerloo line. In heels.

08.57 - Thankfully the office is two metres from the station exit and I make it! Phew.

09.00 - Hmm. No one is here to give me a handover

09.05 - Still no one.

09.10 - Boss arrives and looks surprised to see me. Says he was only expecting to see me tomorrow. Interesting. Nevermind, I get to work. Nothing has been arranged, so I need to IT to get a laptop and mobile etc.

09.23 - Finally! Settled in and starting to work.

09.30 - Working away nicely when stranger comes up to and asks why I'm in her seat. Perplexed! Explain that I was booked to start today. She says not possible. Hmmm.

09.32 - Call the agency and tell them there is a lady who says she is meant to be here, not me. Agency says will call me back. I wait. No call.

09.37 - Stranger asks if she can sit at desk to get to work. I stutter...'ok'. Agency still hasn't called back.

09.40 - Hovering around. HR lady comes downstairs and says there has been a mistake and they have been double booked. Would I mind going home and coming back in tomorrow? %$%$"$^&$!!!...deep breathe. Of course not!

09.43 - I call agency. Apologies pour forth. They accidentally double booked! Aaaarrggghh!

And that, dear readers, was my morning. I won't bother detailing the rest of my day as it didn't get better. Well, except for the part where on my way home, I read something funny in the Metro and couldn't stop laughing. I had tears running down my face! :-)

Ah well. The days is not over yet, so I guess I'll go try and make it better.

Allergies

These are the things I am allergic too:

1. Mornings

Do not be tempted to engage me. I am sleep-walking and don't really wake until 11am.

2. Mondays

Unless it is a Bank/public holiday.

3. Some Wednesdays and Thursdays

Unless they too are Bank/public holidays.

4. Laundry

Self-explanatory

5. Dishes

See point 4.

6. Housework in general, including vacuuming, ironing and window washing

Just ask anyone of my friends.

7. Karaoke

'Nuff said

8. Cheap things and cheap people

Just nasty!

9. "Normal" people

They scare me.

10. Vegetables

All those strange shapes and tastes. Yuck! Although potatoes are good. Oh and olives. Olives are veggies, right?

Hot Mess

It's Monday. Oh no, wait, that was yesterday. But since I had the day off, today is my Monday. Gggggrrrr. Monday Tuesday.

I feel like a hot mess. Suspect that I have added the 'hot' to make myself feel better.

The shit is hitting the proverbial fan over here. More later.
